SEPTA to pay $9.75 million for property for new train station and parking garage in Conshohocken

On the April 28th agenda for SEPTA’s board is a resolution to authorize the purchase of 6.5 acres on Conshohocken riverfront to construct the new train station and a parking garage. The cost of the property is $9.75 million. In the resolution (see page 11 of the agenda), the parking garage is stated to be “proposed.”

While the station is described in the resolution as being needed to make the Conshohocken station ADA compliant, it doesn’t state the purpose of the garage.

As MoreThanTheCurve.com has reported, the garage is part of a plan by PennDOT to encourage drivers on the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) to exit the highway and take the train into the city. PennDOT will have digital signs along the highway leading to the Conshohocken exit that will give train times, etc.
