The School Safety and Security Committee established within the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency recently awarded $53.7 million in school safety and security grants. This included $45,000 to the Colonial School District.

Colonial will use the funds to upgrade technology infrastructure such as the lobby guard systems at the entrance to each school.

“We appreciate the ongoing financial support from the state,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Christian. “We will continue to use all of the resources available to us to provide a welcoming and secure school climate. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is always a priority.”

Prior grants provided to Colonial for security have included:

• In 2017 the District was awarded a $19,145 equipment grant to purchase new surveillance cameras for the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School/Colonial Elementary School campus
• In 2014, Colonial received a $24,720 PDE Safe Schools grant to purchase visitor management kiosks, or lobby guard systems in Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, Colonial Middle School, Conshohocken Elementary School, Plymouth Elementary School, Ridge Park Elementary School and Whitemarsh Elementary School

More than 500 school entities received a grant.
