It was recently announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has awarded the Borough of Conshohocken with $229,829 to install high-visibility crosswalks, modernized ADA facilities, and rectangular rapid flashing beacons at the intersection of Fayette Street and Second Avenue. This will essentially mimic the pedestrian safety measures that were previously installed two blocks away at 4th Avenue.
Both intersections are heavily traveled by pedestrians, but do not have traffic lights. Pennsylvania law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians who are in the intersection. The upgrades to the intersection are meant to slow drivers and alert them to pedestrians.
The grant comes through the state’s Automated Red-Light Enforcement Program, which is funded by the net revenue of fines collected through Automated Red Light Enforcement Systems and Automated Speed Enforcement Systems.
