Students in Conshohocken have been crossing Fayette Street at 3rd Avenue in Conshohocken for decades. The Philadelphia Evening Bulletin published a photo of children with 65-year-old Perry Smith, Jr., who was on one of his last days as a “special traffic cop” which equates to at least partially today’s crossing guard.

According to the information we found with the photo, the $60 a month position was abolished by the borough council and the students made a “vigorous protest” in support of Perry. We couldn’t find any information as to whether the protest worked.
