Traffic island turned into native wildflower garden in Plymouth Meeting

This is a story we missed from the end of June 2024. Colonial Canopy Project and the Plymouth Township Environmental Advisory Board obtained a grant to remove a section of turf grass at Black Horse Park in Plymouth Meeting and replace it with a native wildflower garden.

The planting took place in 2023, and Colonial Canopy Project’s founder, Andrew Conboy, reported that the garden is thriving after its first year. Ten native bee species and several butterfly species were spotted in the garden. Among the bees was the Golden Northern Bumble Bee, which Conboy shared is considered vulnerable.
