Conshohocken Physical Therapy is using a proactive approach by performing a comprehensive running examination before injuries occur. This includes a postural assessment, functional/neuromuscular and core endurance screen and video running analysis. Based upon the examination findings, specific recommendations are made to address abnormalities through the use of corrective exercises, running form modifications, body mechanics training and recommendations on appropriate shoe wear.
Slow motion video analysis provides them with precise information that is not possible to see in real time. It enables them to measure specific joint angles from the foot/ankle, knee, hip, and spine to provide more specific feedback to runners regarding their abnormal mechanics. They can isolate muscular compensations, identify signs of weakness and point out possible habitual changes that are contributing to pain (or that may lead to an injury in the future). In addition, runners can now see their own body mechanics as we review the slow motion video together and as it is projected on a big screen TV during the analysis. This provides a deeper level of engagement and learning when a runner can visualize his or her own movement dysfunctions.
For anxious runners rehabilitating following an injury or surgery on a lower extremity, the facility offers an AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill. It’s patented Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology, developed at NASA, applies a comfortable and uniform lifting force to your body, so it allows you to run normally, with full range of motion. The AlterG is the only “unweighting” device that allows you to exercise at a reduced body weight while maintaining normal running mechanics.
“The AlterG makes you feel like you are walking on the moon. It is such an asset for our runners who can rehabilitate with less pain, reduce the risk of further injury and heal much faster,” said Dr. Christopher Wickel, PT, DPT, Cert. MDT, a Senior Physical Therapist at Conshohocken Physical Therapy.
Conshohocken Physical Therapy has been voted one of the Top 4 PT Practices in the Nation by Advance Magazine and named a “Best Practice” by PT Products Magazine.
Conshohocken Physical Therapy is a private practice that believes in making a positive impact, both personally and therapeutically, on every person who enters their office. They come to work everyday with the excitement to meet people, learn about them and, hopefully, change their lives.
