Villanova rowing center in Conshohocken to include second boathouse that may be used by high school rowers

On the January 9th agenda (view) for the Whitemarsh Township Board of Supervisors is a conditional use hearing involving Villanova University’s proposed rowing center at 601 Washington Street in Conshohocken (Whitemarsh Township).

A second boathouse on the property was publicly mentioned in a memo to the supervisors regarding the conditional use application. The township’s zoning officer, Charlie Guttenplan, writes:

The Conditional Use involves extensive renovation of a portion of existing boathouse on the site for use by Villanova’s crew team (after the removal of certain sections of the boathouse), as well as construction of a smaller boathouse that may be used by high school teams, at the discretion of Villanova.

Villanova’s women’s varsity and men’s club programs have long operated from a former warehouse on the property. Once approved, Villanova intends to break ground on the project in the spring of 2025 and open the facility in 2026.
