Now that it’s October, we’re officially barreling toward the first ever Conshohocken Beer Festival, and we at the Conshohocken Plymouth Whitemarsh Rotary couldn’t be more excited for this event!
Enjoying a fall Saturday with friends while sampling some of the best craft beers around. Sounds like a pretty great day, huh?
What if you could do that and help your community at the same time?
The good news is that you can.
You may have heard that the CPW Rotary is the beneficiary for the Conshy Beer Fest, meaning that the proceeds will come to us. Perhaps you’ve been wondering what it is we’ll be doing with those proceeds.
So, wait. What is Rotary, anyway?
If you’re not familiar with Rotary, it’s a professional service organization that welcomes members to give back to the community while continuing to hone and develop their professional skills, all while upholding the ideals of “service above self.”
And what of the CPW Rotary, specifically? Our club is made up of men and women ranging in age from 25 to 92! As individuals, we work in a variety of industries, including financial, real estate, healthcare, non-profit, online publishing, copywriting, advertising, technology, and more. Together, our professional skills help us to create initiatives within the community in order to better serve it.
What work has the CPW Rotary done lately, and how will you use the proceeds from Beer Fest?
As our club continues to grow, we are thrilled with how that growth translates to the work we can do within the community. Along with help from our fantastic Interact Club at PW High School, we have worked to support local organizations like the Colonial Neighborhood Council, the Fellowship House, Cradles to Crayons, Canine Partners for Life, and Fresh Smiles.
Additionally, we support initiatives from the Gundaker Foundation and Rotary International, as well as Rotoplast, which helps to provide necessary medical procedures to children needing to correct cleft lip and palate.
Every spring, we participate in Rotarian at Work Day. Our main project for this has been helping to collect donations for Impact Thrift Stores.
In June (2014), we were proud to be able to purchase and donate safety bollards to be installed on the Schuylkill River Trail in memory of Officer Brad Fox. The bollards were placed near Officer Fox’s memorial on the trail.
With the holiday season coming up quickly, we will be purchasing turkeys so that local families in need can have Thanksgiving dinner. After that, we’ll turn our attention to working with the Fellowship House to purchase Christmas gifts for local children who might not otherwise receive them.
As is the case with our annual fundraisers — Comedy Night (coming up in November) and Vegas Night (set for March 2015) — when you purchase a ticket to the Conshohocken Beer Festival, not only are you purchasing a ticket for what promises to be a fun and memorable event, but you’re also helping us to be able to continue doing this kind of work in and around Conshy. The money you spend on your ticket will go right back into bettering our community.
