West Conshohocken moving towards consideration of single-use plastics ban

On the agenda for the April 9th meeting of West Conshohocken’s Borough Council is an item involving a single-use plastics ban. It is still early in the consideration process. During the April 9th meeting, council will vote to decide on whether to hold a hearing on a proposed ordinance on May 14th.

The main focus of these type of ordinances (based on what we have seen in other municipalities) are the plastic bags used to home items from grocery/convenience stores and restaurants. They don’t for example, ban the plastic used to wrap meat at a deli or the bag used to take home a goldfish.

One question that comes up is plastic straws. We have seen municipalities ban them, however, allow them when necessary for medical care or condition. Some have haven’t banned them and just focused on bags.

More to come.
