On the March 12th agenda for West Conshohocken’s Borough Council are contracts with Covanta and J.P. Mascaro & Sons. West Conshohocken currently sends its trash to the Covanta plant in Conshohocken (Plymouth Township) where it is burned and the process creates energy. J.P. Mascaro & Sons picks collects recyclables for the borough.
In recent years, there were a series of malfunctions at the Covanta plant that resulted in fines and complaints of noise and odors. When the issues at the plant were generating the most public interest, Whitemarsh Township decided to stop utilizing the facility and opted to send its trash to a landfill. Locally, Plymouth Township, the Borough of Conshohocken, and the Borough of West Conshohocken all continued with Covanta.
