Whitemarsh Township has announced that the playground at Miles Park has closed for renovations that will “result in an inclusive playground.” The new playground is expected to open in the fall.
The new playground will be geared towards children of all abilities, ages two to 12. It will include a large, ramped play structure with inclusive play features. Other features within the playground will be a SwayFun, which allows all users, including those in mobility devices, to rock or sway together, plus elevated play components, climbers, slides, musical instruments, spinners, and other sensory-stimulating play events.
A symbol communication sign will also be provided. This sign will include pictures and symbols which can be an effective way for non-verbal, speech-challenged, and early learning individuals to communicate with friends and caregivers.
The area will be complemented with an accessible pathway to enter the play area as well as new benches and a solar charging station so residents can charge their devices and stay connected while visiting the play area.
