There is a plan for an outdoor ice rink and two indoor rinks at two different properties off Swedeland Road in King of Prussia (Upper Merion Township). This section of Upper Merion is very close to West Conshohocken and across the river from Conshohocken.
We first learned about the rinks from Upper Merion Township Supervisor Greg Waks, who made a Facebook post about it on September 14th. Below is that post:
There’s a good chance an outdoor ice rink could open as soon as this winter. It would be located off Swedeland Road next to Steelyard Sports and not far from Renaissance Blvd. A subsequent phase could result in two indoor ice rinks down the road. The vast majority of the traffic would be generated on the weekends, holidays and at night and there’s sufficient parking. Additionally, the developer has expressed interest in working with Parks and Recreation to provide broader community access/programming.
You may recall this project was first proposed several years ago.I’m glad to see it’s coming to fruition.
MoreThanTheCurve.com spoke with the man behind the rinks, Tom Puhl, on September 19th. He shared that the outdoor rink is approved, but unlikely to open as an ice rink this year. A more realistic opening is in the spring, and for warmer weather, the rink will have a Sport Court-type floor that will allow for other sports to be played. In November 2026, the rink will switch to ice for the winter season. The location is adjacent to Steelyard Sports, located at 538 Swedeland Road.
The other facility would be nearby and have two indoor ice rinks. This project is currently moving through the approval process.
More to come.
