The Philadelphia Inquirer reported today that the Upper Merion School District, which children from West Conshohocken attend, is likely the first Philadelphia area school system to require teachers and staff to be vaccinated or wear masks and be tested for COVID-19 regularly.

Teachers and staff in the Upper Merion Area School District must get vaccinated or wear a mask and submit to routine COVID-19 testing this fall, in what appears to be one of the first moves by a Philadelphia-area district to impose rules around employee vaccination.

The school board voted 8-0 Monday night in favor of the plan, which will require teachers and staff to show proof of vaccination. If they don’t, they will have to wear a mask and be tested twice weekly.

The Colonial School District, which children from Conshohocken, Plymouth, and Whitemarsh attend, is set to discuss the recent COVID-19 recommendations from the CDC and Montgomery County during a meeting on August 9th.

One thing to note. Jeffrey T. Sultanik, the attorney for the Upper Merion School District who is quoted in the article, is also the solicitor for the Colonial School District.
