Saturday’s rain led to Spring Mill Fire Company conducting water rescues

According National Weather Service, March 23rd was the “wettest March day on record at Philadelphia PA” since they began measuring in 1872. The storm brought an accumulation of 3.06 inches of rain at the Philadelphia International Airport. The previous record for a single day in March was 2.79 inches, which happened on March 15, 1912.

In Whitemarsh Township, the rain resulted in the Spring Mill Fire Company needing to conduct water rescues. From the fire company:

At 12:44 hours [12:44 p.m.], our team was dispatched to River Road and Harts Lane for a vehicle stuck in the flooded roadway with an occupant inside the vehicle. Chief 45 arrived and assessed the situation and reported one vehicle with water to the windows and 1 occupant still in the vehicle. Special Service 45, equipped with 5 water rescue certified personnel quickly arrived on scene with Boat 45, they entered the flooded roadway and rescued the stranded individual.

Then, at 15:59 hours [3:59 p.m.), another call came in, this time to Stenton Avenue and Mill Road. We were dispatched with Barren Hill Fire Company for yet another vehicle trapped in floodwaters with a person inside. Special Service 45 responded equipped with 5 water rescue certified personnel arriving on scene with Boat 45, they entered the flooded roadway and rescued the stranded individual.
